Be very cautious when Microsoft calls you.
Actually, Microsoft will never call unless they are returning a call.
The software powerhouse does not have the resources to begin calling all of it’s users – so, be very careful and leery when a caller identifies themselves as “Microsoft”.
Some tips:
- NEVER give out ANY information. Additionally, be cautious around words that sound like a confirmation. E.g., Don’t say the words “Yes” or “Right” or any words that could be considered words of agreement or confirmation. There have been times when these words and victims voices were recorded as an “acceptance” for services or products. Obviously a scam, but not obvious to the unsuspecting victim who answered a question similar to: “You do have a computer, right? “
- Write down the phone number and “Google” it – chances are, you are not the 1st person
- IF the offer is too good to be true – it is!
- Again, I can’t reiterate this – Corporations such as Microsoft, or Symantec do not need to call you. it is not cost effective, and frankly, the time and effort that it will cost them to call you is not worth it. Besides, if they did begin to call their users, then, we have greater issues ( Big Brother is watching!).
